Cross country skiing in Italy: it's the perfect winter get away. Think cross country, cappuccino, and comfort!

Learn how to cross country ski (also known a nordic ski) 'classic' style on groomed trails. You do not have to be an 'athlete' to enjoy it but it is a great way to improve fitness whilst enjoy the mountains in winter. This trip is suitable for complete beginners, those wishing to refresh their skills.

Cogne, our base for this trip, is known as the 'Queen of Cross Country' in Italy. This picturesque location offers first class skiing away from the crowds in the heart of the Gran Paradiso National park (home to Italy's highest peak). With it's typical stone-house village and eighteenth-century chapel, the area is steeped in history. Join one of our small cross country ski groups with a carefully chosen instructor who is truly passionate about the sport.

Skate Ski Breaks

Skate style cross country skiing in Italy, an extended weekend dedicated to learning or improving the art of 'skate skiing'.

Developed in the 1980's 'skating' or 'freestyle' as it's known is a form of Nordic 'cross country skiing' where we ski on groomed trails using a motion similar to ice skating. Enjoy mastering this technique enjoy stunning surroundings whilst gaining strength and fitness along the way.

Swiss Alps: Cross Country Skiing

Join us in the heart of the Swiss Valais for a week of cross country skiing.

Explore the trails of the upper Obergoms valley whilst improving Nordic ski technique along the way. Reliable conditions and up to 85 kilometres of ski trails offer beginners to ski racers access to this 'Swiss chocolate box' winter wonderland.

Imagine some of the most stunning and inspirational mountain scenery that our plant has to offer and then add in over 1000 km of cross country tracks. The Dolomites are home to some of the most famous cross country ski races in Europe and the 'locals' have put a huge effort into making everything 'easy' for cross country skiers. The area is a UNESCO World Heritage site and it's easy to see why. You will be amazed by the beauty of the mountains with their range of jagged spires, towers and peaks.

Traverse of the Black Forest

A cross country skiers paradise! The 'German Black Forest' offers a superb 115km point-to-point journey. Located near the borders of France and Switzerland, lying north of Freiburg and Basel, is this superb 'Grand German Traverse'. The skiing is all on prepared tracks on classic style 'langlauf' cross country skis.

The Black Forest starts at 150m above sea level at the upper reaches of the Rhine River to more than 1400m above sea level in the highest mountains of the southern Black Forest. An extensive network of both long-distance and local cross-country skiing trails makes it possible to cross the length and breadth of the Black Forest. Each day we aim to ski approximately 20km whilst carrying just a day pack - when we arrive at our guest house we find our luggage waiting for us!

Our tour traverses the diverse landscape of the Upper Black Forest staying in charming guest houses and inns whilsr enjoying German hospitality along the way. This 5-day ski journey, between the villages of Schonach in the north and Belchen in the south, climbs some 3200m whilst keeping an altitude of about 1,000m most of the way. We alternate skiing through deep valleys, forests and farming communities.

Grand Traverse of the Jura

The Grande Traversée du Jura (or GTJ) is a fabulous journey over the Jura mountains crossing through France and parts of Switzerland. Located not far from Geneva, the journey is made on classic cross country skis. This 142km long-distance ski trail was first completed in 1978 and is nearly all on prepared, pressed tracks.

Our route starts in the Haut Joux, Switzerland and finishes at Giron in the Ain département crossing the Jura and the Haut-Jura regional nature reserves. The ski route with it's varied terrain and relief can't fail to impress you with it's natural charm and beautiful landscapes. The inhabitants take immense pride in their local produce and culture - and this journey offers a taste of it all.

Each day we aim to cover approximately 20-30km of the tracks whilst carrying a small day pack. Each night we arrive at our hotel or gite to find our luggage waiting for us.

Trans Jura Swiss

The 'Trans-Jura Swiss' is a 'tracked' point-to-point cross country ski journey over the Swiss mountains of the Jura. Following the success of our Grand Traverse of the Jura (GTJ), which is mainly in France, we are pleased to now offer the 'TJS' - the Swiss version. Starting within easy reach of Geneva the journey, first made in 1976, is made on classic cross country skis. If it is peace and tranquillity and a true taste of authentic mountain life you seek, then look no further!

Our route starts at the Col Givrine and travels eastwards along the Swiss/French border finishing at the well named 'Vue des Alpes'. Nearly all on prepared, pressed tracks covering 154km, the route keeps high along the Jura ridge and offers superb views into the Canton of Jura and southwards towards the Alps and Neuchâtel. Each day we aim to cover between 17-35km whilst carrying a small day pack. The trail keeps high and sometime feels very remote ensuring the best snow conditions. The terrain changes continuously amidst a beautiful landscape. Each night we arrive at our hotel to find our luggage waiting for us.
