Tracks and Trails / Snowshoeing / Scheduled Departures

Scheduled Departures

Snowshoeing is ideal for people who walk on a regular basis and who want to experience the mountains in winter without needing to be a mountaineer or skier.

We know that finding a friend with a similar sense of adventure is not always easy and that joining a group can be the best way to find ready-made companions.

With this in mind we offer a range of snowshoe holidays. We have a long weekend making a snowshoe journey, or safari, through the mountains in the beautiful Vaud region of Switzerland, a week of day trips based in the stunning area around Mont Blanc in the world famous Chamonix Valley, a week exploring the area of Etroubles in Italy and NEW a Traverse of the Chablais area in six days.

Snowshoe Long Weekend

A fabulous three days of snowshoeing in the spectacular Chamonix valley, in France. This is the perfect introduction to winter walking on snowshoes. If you are a walker and would like to experience the joy of wandering through the snowy forests and valleys in winter then this is the perfect weekend break.

  • Mont Blanc views
  • Glaciers and peaks

The right trip for you?

Snowshoeing is simply 'walking' in winter. We put snowshoes on our feet to stop ourselves sinking into the snow, and to generally make walking easier when travelling through the mountains. Anyone, who is a regular walker and enjoys the outdoors will love this long weekend. The days involve between 4-6 hrs of walking and there is time to explore, shop or simply relax within our glorious mountain environment.

Italian Dolomites Snowshoe

The Dolomites mountain range in the northern Italian Alps is one of the most beautiful landscapes in the world, with vertical walls, sheer cliffs and narrow, deep and long valleys. It has eighteen peaks rising to over 3000 metres, many with spectacular rock spires and towers, such as the world famous Tre Cime. It is the exceptional natural beauty of the rock formations and geology that have given the Dolomites, World Heritage status. Be prepared to be impressed!

  • Stunning mountain scenery
  • Professional International Mountain Leader
  • Excellent hotel with Italian hospitality
  • Peaks, spires and secluded valleys
  • A week of truly beautiful snowshoeing

Chamonix Snowshoe Adventure

This trip is aimed at those who are regular summer hill walkers and used to spending a full day in the mountains. You do not need previous snowshoe experience, but you do need a good level of fitness and be prepared to snowshoe off-piste!

The world famous Chamonix valley in the French Alps is a good base from which to explore the valleys and peaks in the Mont Blanc massif.

With Switzerland and Italy just 30 minutes by car we can experience three different cultures in as many days! Rather than specify in advance a prescribed schedule, each day your guide will decide on the best route based on an assessment of weather and snow conditions (an example itinerary is given further down, below).

  • Enjoy stunning views of the Mont Blanc range
  • Make fresh tracks in virgin snow
  • Experience a night in the famous Grand St Bernard Monastery
  • Entry to the Martigny St Bernard Museum

Névache Snowshoe: Valleys & Cols

One of the very best areas in France to snowshoe in the mountains. The tiny ancient hamlet of Névache is situated in the Vallée de la Clarée, a truly beautiful base for a week of exploring the surrounding snowy summits and Cols.

The very name 'Nevache' means 'snow covered' and the area is known for often having the best snow cover in the Southern Alps. We also aim to spend one night in a mountain refuge which in itself is a wonderful opportunity to enjoy the mountains 'up close' and in all their glory.

  • Remote, ancient and beautiful valley base
  • Numerous excellent routes
  • Night in a mountain refuge
  • Return airport transfers included
  • Reputation for great snow
  • Taste the delights of the highest microbrewery in France!

Snowshoe Summits in Samoëns

It is truly a well-kept secret! Samoëns offers stunning snowshoeing in the beautiful Haute Savoie region of France. Our base is in the gorgeous alpine village of Samoëns, situated near the impressive Cirque du Fer a Cheval. These huge cliffs form a horseshoe in front of the Dents Blanches mountain range creating a magnificent mountain environment.

Samoens is a mountain village which is becoming increasingly popular with those 'in the know'. It has recently been described as the next 'Chamonix', in other words a great place for mountain adventure. The terrain is excellent for snowshoeing and promises some great days on summits. Its proximity to the Mont Blanc range means excellent views of the highest mountain in Western Europe in good weather. The name “Samoëns” dates from 1167 A.D. and is based on a medieval expression meaning “the seven mountains”, a reference to the peaks around the village. This is why the local men are known as “septimontains” and the women “septimontaines”.

  • Truly spectacular mountain landscape
  • Views to Mont Blanc, highest mountain in Western Europe
  • Hidden gem of a village, fast becoming popular with mountain lovers
  • Fabulous range of snowshoe routes
  • Gorgeous alpine village base with excellent bars and cafes
  • Meals which feature great local Savoyard food

Queyras Snowshoe Winter Paradise

The Queyras Regional Natural Park is considered to be one of the most beautiful in France, and there is no doubting that. Wild mountain valleys, with impressive rock faces and jagged ridgelines are all there just waiting to be explored. The area lies south of the ancient town of Briancon, a World Heritage Site, and is just west of the frontier with Italy. It is characterised by wild mountain valleys with impressive rock faces and jagged ridgelines. This is the place to get away from it all, it's a surprise to meet other groups on the mountain.

  • Remote wild valleys
  • Spectacular mountain views
  • Away from the crowds
  • Gorgeous village base
  • Return airport transfer included
  • Excellent auberge accommodation

Traverse of the Chablais

This is now a 'must do' winter journey over the mountains between the French village of Megevette in the valley of the Arve in the west, through to the shores of Lake Geneva in the east. The Chablais area is renowned for its marvellous snowshoeing country and many of the high points give views to the Mont Blanc range. Since we pioneered this route in 2009 it has become a 'classic' for snowshoe enthusiasts.

As we travel on our snowshoes from village to village we pass through remote valleys, under towering limestone cliffs and over high plateaus. Each day our luggage is taken by taxi to our next hotel - so no heavy loads to carry!

  • A true mountain journey
  • Explore hidden valleys
  • Visit ancient villages
  • Sample delightful local cuisine and culture
  • Airport transfer included
  • Only a lightweight day rucksack needed!
